The international Erasmus+ project “Academic Response to Hybrid Threats” (WARN), in which the NURE team, led by Prof. Svitlana Gryshko from the EC Department, also acted as the National Coordinator, has received the highest evaluation in the audit conducted by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).
The audit highlighted the project’s strong relevance to Ukraine’s and the EU’s strategic priorities, as well as the successful modernization of educational programs, the introduction of innovative teaching methods, the establishment of hubs of excellence, and the development of the WARN Network. The auditors also noted the consortium’s effective performance during the pandemic and wartime conditions, as well as the high-quality implementation of all planned results.
For the department, this recognition confirms our capacity to deliver international initiatives and coordinate inter-university collaboration. The project’s outcomes are already integrated into our educational activities, further strengthening the department’s position in interdisciplinary and security-related training.

Professor of our department, Svitlana Gryshko, has successfully completed the international WIPO-Ukraine Women Innovators and Startup Empowerment (WISE) Program. The initiative was organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the IP Academy of UANIPIO, with the support of the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO).

The WISE Program builds a community of women leaders in startups and innovation – those who rethink entrepreneurship and set new rules for the game.

For our department, this experience is another step toward integrating cutting-edge practices into the learning process, strengthening research and grant opportunities, and engaging students in bold innovation projects that shape a sustainable future.

The academic year has come to an end. For some, it’s just another step towards their professional future. But for our department – and for Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics as a whole – it has been another year of trials that we have endured together: both faculty and students.

We continue to work and teach under constant threat – in a city subjected to daily shelling. And yet NURE keeps educating, and our students keep learning. This perseverance is our unique strength.

For several years now, our department’s academic programmes have included a competency that has become especially relevant in today’s reality:
“The ability to responsibly adapt work processes and personal space to complex and unpredictable situations caused by global challenges.”

This academic year has clearly demonstrated that we do more than meet educational standards – we prepare students for life and work in a real world that is often harsh and unstable.

Our students are learning to operate in environments where the top priority is human life and health. At the same time, we show them how to maintain the continuity of critical processes by modelling this within our own educational framework.

This means our students develop the ability to:

• flexibly combine online and offline learning, depending on circumstances;
• work effectively in both synchronous formats (lectures, webinars) and asynchronous ones (independent study and assignment completion);
• balance group work with individual consultations that require a proactive student mindset;
• use corporate resources by default (such as institutional email and file-sharing systems), as well as request-based access to specialised tools (licensed software, academic databases, and more);
• collaborate in shared digital workspaces, exemplified by the university’s DL platform;
• build their own learning paths – especially in flipped classroom models or when engaged in research projects;
• enhance digital dexterity – mastering new IT tools quickly and independently, often from home, with minimal supervision (yet with on-demand support when needed).

Indeed, learning under such conditions is more challenging. But it also makes our students more resilient, adaptable, and therefore more competitive in the job market. Not everyone can perform under pressure while maintaining high standards, but our students can.

We transform vulnerability into strength.
We do not just educate – we prepare students for life.

On October 17, 2024, the State University of Infrastructure and Technologies, together with the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, held the V International Scientific and Practical Conference “Management and Administration in Countering Hybrid Threats to National Security,” which took place online. The event was organized within the framework of the Erasmus+ project “Academic Response to Hybrid Threats” (WARN), which has been bringing together scholars and specialists for several years to exchange experiences and develop innovative approaches to national security protection in the face of contemporary challenges.

This year’s conference focused on the topic of resilience, which plays a key role in countering hybrid threats. The workshop titled “Resilience as the Foundation for Countering Hybrid Threats” featured a series of presentations from leading scholars and experts dedicated to the development of strategies and approaches for enhancing the resilience of states and societies in the context of modern hybrid threats.

Participants had the opportunity to learn about the research results and practical solutions developed within the WARN project, particularly innovative methods of countering hybrid threats through academic and educational platforms. The WARN project aims to adapt advanced European experience and best practices to Ukrainian realities, taking into account the specific nature of both local and global threats.

The conference covered a wide range of topics, from hybrid security to the challenges of preparing new management professionals in the context of national security threats. Special attention was paid to innovative approaches to teaching and education, based on the experience of countering hybrid threats, as well as the role of psychological and cognitive factors in building resilience at both the individual and societal levels.

In addition to theoretical presentations, the conference also served as a platform for showcasing new educational materials and tools developed within the WARN project, particularly training resources for preparing teachers and specialists from various professional fields to counter hybrid threats.

As the event concluded, participants agreed on the need to continue work on resilience at all levels—from academic research to practical solutions. The WARN project continues to play an important role in this process, contributing to the development of innovative approaches and uniting the efforts of the academic community to strengthen national security. The conclusions of the V International Scientific and Practical Conference reaffirmed the relevance and necessity of further research and collaborative work in the field of countering hybrid threats at all levels.

On September 16, 2024, the National University of Ostroh Academy hosted a training for teachers of universities that are part of the Consortium within the framework of the Erasmus+ project “WARN – Academic countermeasures to hybrid threats (610133-EPP-1-2019-1-FI-EPPKA2-CBHE -JP)”.

The purpose of the event was to spread innovative teaching practices acquired during trainings at European partner universities of the WARN project. The team of teachers of the NURE EC department, headed by the head of Department Prof. T.V. Polozova took an active part in this event. The participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with pedagogical approaches aimed at improving the quality of education in the conditions of modern challenges and threats.

The training began with a speech by Professor Anatoliy Hudoliya, head of the Department of English Philology of the National University of Ostroh Academy, who spoke about the introduction of the latest teaching methods into the educational process. His report emphasized the need to adapt teaching approaches to the rapidly changing conditions of modern education and the security landscape.

Oksana Hrytsuk, associate professor of the Department of Psychology of the Horliv Institute of Foreign Languages (Bakhmut-Dnipro), shared her experience of using the Kahoot platform as part of “inverted learning”, which allows students to better learn the material through interactive tasks.

Valentyna Zasadko, the director of the School of Public Administration of UCU, presented an interesting and important speech, where the case method as an effective tool in teaching topics related to countering hybrid threats was presented.

Maria Golovyanko, associate professor of the Department of Artificial Intelligence of NURE, drew attention to the importance of an interdisciplinary and multicultural approach in education, which helps to prepare students for their  respond to the complex challenges of hybrid threats.

The training was completed by the speech of Alla Atamanenko, professor of the National Academy of Sciences, who highlighted the issue of using dilemmas as an important component of training specialists in the field of international relations and national security.

A lively discussion of the proposed approaches allows us to say that the event became an important platform for the exchange of experience between professors and lecturers teachers. Such creative interdisciplinary interaction of teachers really contributes to the introduction of innovations into the educational process, which will prepare a new generation of students for the challenges of the modern world.

On August 23, Ukraine celebrates National Flag Day. Despite all prohibitions, the main national symbol has accompanied Ukrainians on their path to independence. Today, the blue and yellow flag embodies the struggle for freedom—on the chevrons of soldiers, safely hidden in occupied territories and raised over liberated cities.

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the national flag gained special significance. On combat positions, military vehicles, and armor, it symbolizes the fight for the country’s freedom.
